HAMBURGER IS HEAVEN IN WEST PALM LOCATION

You know how you move to a new city, you cruise by certain restaurants and are drawn to them? Drawn to them, but you never stop and give them a try.

This is my story about an institution in the Palm Beaches.

Hamburger Heaven served up burgers and more on the island of Palm Beach for years. Every time I drove past, I wanted to stop, just not enough to bother finding parking.

Oh, I knew it had a fabulous reputation, but sampling their fare did not happen.

Guess what happened?

They closed. That's an entirely different story, but it's out there if you want to find it.

Anyway, the good news is the closure was temporary and they now have a beautiful restaurant on Clematis, waterfront, West Palm Beach. This lovely Banyan tree is a perfect welcome.

The parking is a snap. Valet for $2, but your ticket must be validated by Hamburger Heaven. Tipping is suggested (by me) because those guys truly earn those bucks.

For our first visit we were warmly welcomed and made to feel like one of the regulars, and there are many of those.

The decor is casual, fun and the atmosphere is very open. On our next visit we plan to dine outdoors, heat permitting.

My classic cheeseburger was perfection, the tomato slice thick, white onion sweet and the bun delicious. The very generous serving of skinny fries were delivered hot on the plate with the burger.

Our lunch cost around $30, but when you are having a burger in a place where some men have expensive sweaters draped casually over both shoulders, well don't expect to eat cheap.

However, they do have specials to explore, like Blue Dot Wednesdays, and if you visit their Facebook page, you will see they also have a VIP club. For one, I simply can not get enough VIP treatment.

Upon our departure, we were asked how things were and they hoped we would be back. We will.

Listen, they complimented me on my dress several times and that's what I can heaven. -- Pam

I agree with all of the above. For years this place was indeed an institution on The Island, and Palm Beach's loss is West Palm Beach's gain. With their friendly and attentive service, we'll be coming back often. It will be fun sampling the two dozen of so choices of hamburgers and other delights ... and then starting over! -- Gerry
