CRUISING AMTRAK IS FIRST CLASS

There is much to share with you about our recent land-cruise from West Palm Beach to New York City, and share I will.

Of course, there is the dining experience (specifically the food offerings), the lounge car, the in-car attendants, climate control in the roomette and much more.

But, something really unexpected occurred when we arrived at Penn Station for our return trip.

Naturally, there was semi-chaos in that busy station as I hovered over our luggage as Gerry zipped around trying to find the exact spot for luggage check and track assignment.

My first tip at Penn Station?
If you elect to stay with the luggage as your travel partner nails down the specifics for the return trip, do not position yourself near any trash receptacle. The people rummaging through the trash get annoyed with you. Apparently, it cramps their style if you and your heavy bags are in their territory.

My second tip at Penn Station?

Keep smiling and enjoy the experience.

Now, here's the best part. If you have a roomette ticket, you get to enter the world of the First Class lounge. That's right, you escape the noise and crowds and relax in comfort while you wait to board. Snacks, drinks, nice restrooms, television, magazines, internet access and comfy chairs are all part of your ticket price.

If that's not enough to make you feel special, when your train is ready for boarding there is an assigned escort to see you directly to your train car. Now, that's service you just don't see anymore. Not much anyway.

Yes, it's the small things that are really the large things that make a trip! --Pam
